Our remarkable Soloist for 2024

Praised by The New York Times for her "stylish" and "radiant" performance at Carnegie Hall, Agnes Zsigovics has established herself as a distinguished soprano. The British Early Music Review celebrated her rendition of Zerfliesse, mein Herze (Analekta) as “among the best ever,” and Wholenote Magazine noted, “There are now many singers who specialize in Early Music, and one of the finest is Canadian soprano Agnes Zsigovics” (Wholenote Magazine, November 2015).

Agnes is featured on several acclaimed recordings, including two Juno-nominated albums: The Heart’s Refuge (Analekta, 2015) and The Voice of Bach (Sony), as well as the Prix OPUS-nominated Bach Johannes Passion (Analekta, 2012). Her discography also includes the Analekta release The Vale of Tears (2015).

She has appeared regularly as a soloist with renowned ensembles and festivals such as the Oregon Bach Festival, Bethlehem Bach Festival, Festival d’Ambronay (France), Music of the Baroque (Chicago), Tafelmusik (Toronto), Theatre of Early Music (Montreal), Washington Bach Consort, and the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra.

Other career highlights include performances at Carnegie Hall, collaborations with The National Ballet, I Musici, and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, as well as tours to Peru, Brazil, Germany, and France.

Recent performances include Handel’s Messiah with the Bethlehem Bach Festival and solo recitals in Toronto featuring music by Vivaldi, Monteverdi, and Purcell.

 

Born in Sudbury, raised in Orillia, Autumn Debassige is a mezzo-soprano of First Nations heritage based in southern Ontario.

A versatile freelance soloist, Autumn has been featured by 4th Wall Music, Guelph Chamber Choir, The Cellar Singers, Spiritus Ensemble and by the Elora Festival in the inaugural roster of their Summer Vocal Program in Ensemble and Solo Singing.  She has appeared on stage at Niagara’s former Oh Canada Eh Dinner Theatre in their Broadway Showstoppers production and performed in Windsor Symphony Orchestra’s Wild,Wild West and Fiddlin’ Around concerts. In March 2023, Autumn made her operatic debut as Conversa II in Puccini’s Suor Angelica with Grand River Opera, though most recently she has been alto soloist for the premiere of Justin Lapierre’s Stabat Mater, under the direction of Ben Wallace, and for Symphony in the Barn’s signature Messiah Amongst the Cows.

Autumn is an active recitalist with a ‘rich and expressive’ voice, whose performances have been described as ‘lovely and stylish…wonderful, varied and consistently engaging.’   In the past year she has sung in concert series at Symphony in the Barn (Hanover), St. Andrew’s (Kitchener), First United Church (Waterloo), St. Paul’s Cathedral (London), St. James’ (Orillia), Yorkminster Park (Toronto), St. John’s (Kitchener), and St. James Cathedral (Toronto).

 

Originally from Ottawa, Matt Chittick is a professional Opera and Musical Theatre singer as well as Voice Actor. Praised as having a “clear and vibrant” tenor (Opera Canada), he has performed on stages throughout the world and has lent his voice to many audiobooks, commercials, and voiceovers of all sorts. He is passionate about bringing art to life, whether on the stage or off the page.

Matt was an Emerging Artist with the Calgary Opera for the 2016-2017 season, having the opportunity to study and work with many spectacular artists and instructors. He completed his Master of Music at the University of British Columbia under Prof. Roelof Oostwoud and his Bachelor of Music at McGill University under Prof. Stefano Algieri.

Throughout his career, Matt has performed with companies such as Calgary Opera, Portland Opera, Theatre Calgary, the Windsor Symphony Orchestra, Toronto Operetta Theatre, Opera in Concert, Opera Kelowna, Cowtown Opera, Opera Mariposa, and many others. Some role highlights include: Antoine Tassy (Kamouraska), Camille de Rosillon (Merry Widow), Werther (Werther), Albert Lennox (Secret Garden), Tony (West Side Story), Prince Charming (Cinderella), Sylvio/Pasquin (Docteur Miracle), Rodolfo (La Bohème), Almaviva (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Ramiro (Ella/La Cenerentola), Nemorino (The Elixir of Love), Bénédict (Béatrice et Bénédict), Jeník (The Bartered Bride), and Ernesto (Don Pasquale).

 
 
 

Richard is a singer, teacher and conductor. He has been a member of The Elora Singers for 15 years, and he has sung with the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, Opera Atelier, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, Grand Philharmonic Choir, National Arts Centre Orchestra, Spiritus Ensemble.  He brings the joy and satisfaction of singing to his individual students, as well as the Grand River Unitarian Congregation, the Snap!Clap!Pop! choir, and the fine folks at the Supportive Arts group with the Elora Centre for the Arts, and Wellington Terrace LTC home. Outside of music, Richard enjoys adventures in cooking, canoeing and rock climbing.
